Top 10 New Year's Resolutions

1) Spend More Time with Family & Friends
Recent polls conducted by General Nutrition Centers, Quicken, and others shows that more than 50% of Americans vow to appreciate loved ones and spend more time with family and friends this year.

2) Fit in Fitness
The evidence is in for fitness. Regular exercise has been associated with more health benefits than anything else known to man. Studies show that it reduces the risk of some cancers, increases longevity, helps achieve and maintain weight loss, enhances mood, lowers blood pressure, and even improves arthritis. In short, exercise keeps you healthy and makes you look and feel better.

3) Tame the Bulge
Over 66 percent of adult Americans are considered overweight or obese ]by recent studies, so it is not surprising to find that weight loss is one of the most popular New Year's resolutions. Setting reasonable goals and staying focused are the two most important factors in sticking with a weight loss program, and the key to success for those millions of Americans who made a New Year's commitment to shed extra pounds.

Rest of the Top 10

What are yours?

I don't really get into making resolutions. Just seems like a way to procrastinate more. I like to procrastinate though. So...I vow to...nevermind. I already do what I want to do.

Happy New Year!

Favorite New Era Horror Movie

I've always been a horror movie buff, and like zombie movies particularly. Just watched the new version of Dawn of the Dead again and forgot how great it really was. Just has tons of action and great gore. Definitely one of the better gore flicks in the last decade.

AZ: The Format

Today is the release day for the new AZ album. AZ is one of my favorite artists and is like my new 2Pac of this era. His style is similar to the man himself, Nas to give you an idea about him. His last album A.W.O.L. was probably the best rap CD I have listened to in the past few years.

The Format is more of the same. Strong lyrically with solid beats. The dude just has great flow lyrically and I love to listen to him. A few cameos on the album include Little Brother for the track Rise and Fall, M.O.P. on Sit Em Back Slow, and DJ Premier for the title track The Format.

Based on 2 listen throughs so far I haven't picked out my favorite, but I'd say that the M.O.P. track is my least favorite. Don't like the fool. The DJ Premier collab on The Format cash money. Doing That is a great track too as well as the first one in I Am the Truth.

Overall I'd say it is comparable to A.W.O.L.

Tigers Sign Jose Mesa

It appears that Dave Dombrowski has decided to take on another right handed reliever considering the lefty market is all but dead. The team announced that Jose Mesa was signed in free agency for 1 year at $2.5 Million.

Jose Mesa
Story on ESPN

Now this is an odd move. A bit of a head scratcher. Jose Mesa is a veteran closer and has slowly been moved to earlier innings in games. Last year with the Colorado Rockies he lead the league in appearances prior to the All-Star break and really was doing a fine job. His role on this team seems a bit uncertain, but the only possibility is that he will pitch in the 6th and 7th innings since we already have the great Todd Jones as a closer. We also have the 2nd year freak show Joel Zumaya to set up along with Fernando Rodney who is a 7th and 8th inning guy.

My first instinct was that one of those 3 may be on the move. Zumaya is pretty much untouchable so it could be Jones or Rodney. Zumaya is primed to take over at closer when Jones leaves so it could be possible that happens now with a move. The Florida Marlins have expressed interest in Jones so it may be in the works. Manager Jim Leyland LOVES Rodney so I doubt he goes anywhere either. We shall see how it all shakes out.

Lending Idea in the UK

I stumbled across this site from some random ad around the net and found it rather intriguing.

Zopa

The premise of it is that you can lend your money directly to other people that you would otherwise have sitting in a savings account. Now don't get a head of yourself and start thinking that this is crazy and how you don't think this could work.

What is going on here is that Zopa is like a middle man. They will do background checks on lenders before you lend them your money. Unlike a bank where you may pull in 4% for a savings account while they lend your money out to borrowers, on Zopa your money is lent out to borrowers, but they pay you the lending rate. So on average they are claiming that your return is roughly 7% rather than the 4% you would get from a savings account. They have basically eliminated the bank and are a service that does background checks on borrowers that you can lend to rather than banks doing these checks and lending your money to borrowers and keeping all the profit. With Zopa you get the lending return, not some bank.

Get it now? Isn't this an interesting idea? I thought so at least.

AT this point it is only in the U.K., but soon should be in the United States. They are backed by such magnates as the investment companies who backed Ebay, Staples, Juniper, Hotmail, Redgate, etc. For more info on those just take a look at Zopa's page on it:

Backers

Of course many won't be interested in such an idea, or trusting enough, but none the less I find it to be a very fascinating new concept for the use of the internet and hope that the company is able to succeed.

Jumpin' Jehosephat

What an odd expression. Where did it come from? What does it mean?

I scoured the web and found this short piece the best answer:

[Q] From Tom Harris: “Is there an origin to the phrase: Jumping Jehoshaphat? Is it possible that it has nothing to do with the biblical Jehoshaphat? The pastor at a local church challenged the congregation to find the origin of the phrase. I remembered your Web site.”
[A] Support your local pastor. On consulting the Oxford English Dictionary and the Random House Historical Dictionary of American Slang, it seems clear that the name of the king of Judah (which also occurs in several other spellings, most commonly Jehosaphat) was used in the United States around the middle of the nineteenth century as a mild oath, a euphemism for Jehovah or Jesus. The phrase Jumping Jehoshaphat is first recorded from Mayne Reid’s Headless Horseman of 1866, but is probably older. It seems to have been in the tradition of exotic imprecations that Americans of that period were so fond of, with the repeated initial sound greatly helping its acceptance.

Moola

Moola is some gameshow type site like Who Wants to be a Millionaire. They claim that you start with a penny and double it every game you win. You can use less and don't have to risk it all every time. Now the concept is great, but the site is really buggy. It says it is in Beta still, but some of the issues are ridiculous. I've had my money taken from me at least 5 times testing it out. The ap will fail to load and they will just take your winnings away and say you lose. There is also quite a bit of cheating on there it seems becuase you play these little mini-games against other users to win your money. I'm done with it. Just doesn't run well and it seems like it is shadey.

The Sopranos

I just got the first 5 seasons aon DVD recently from Netflix. I never have really had HBO for any period of time so I didn't want to just watch a random episode here and there and miss anything. Started with Season 1 and am through Season 4 now. Gotta say I really am glad I decided to start at the beginning. I'm pretty much addicted to the show now. Too bad it had to end. Tony is the man.

Shaun of the Dead

This movies is so great. It's kind of a comedy/horror movie about zombies and is just hysterical and really well done. Great characters in it and great acting for the most part. Kind of a slapstick horror movie, but it really is one of the better fun movies I've seen in the last few years. I've probably seen it a dozen times or so and it never really gets old. Definitely a cult classic.

Free Boomerang Channel this week

Dish NEtwork usually has a few preview channels going every week and right now it is Boomerang, a old school cartoon channel. I've always loved the channel, but never really felt the need to pay money for a cartoon channel. The cartoons are way better than anything on Cartoon Network, which owns the channel, but it still isn't something I want to pay for. You really can't go wrong with Looney Tunes, Justice League, Popeye, Pink Panther, and Yogi Bear. These cartoon classics blow anything away that is on now in my opinion with the exception of The Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007

Well...I finally broke down and bought it. I have every year since 2003 so I guess it is no suprise. Got it for the XBox this time instead of the trusty PS2.

My overall reaction is: same old, same old.

Nothing really new to note. The XBox controls are far and away ahead of the PS2 though. Not sure if I could go back now. The turbo button being the A button instead of a trigger makes it a lot easier. Seems like the stick isn't as random either and stays the same all the time. On the PS2 you need to adjust the trigger a lot more to keep the shot going straight with out shanking it. I'm not sure if this is just on XBox or both now, but it really makes the game too easy. I never shank it even with very low stats.

Overall PGA Tour 2004 is still the best one.

Monkeys

Anyone have a monkey as a pet? I heard it was illegal in America. I know those little monkeys are probably legal, but the chimps you see in movies aren't. I saw a monkey at a zoo once. It was hanging from a tree by one hand and picking its butt with the other. Then it sniffed and ate it. I don't think I really want a monkey after thaat, but it was funny.

Tracfones

You know those phones that claim you have no contract and no hassles. I got one recently and it is just not true. I didn't read all the fine print and it looks like it really isn't that great a deal. It seems that when you buy your minutes they actually force you to buy more with in 3 months or they just take your old minutes away and deactiviate your phone.

What is the purpose of this? If I wanted to waste my minutes I would be better off with a regular cellphone plane because it actually costs a lot less for minutes. For example: I got 400 minutes for a this Trackphone and they cost $80. $80? I can get 400 minutes on a standard plan for like $20-30. OVer 3 months that only costs me $60-90. Wow great deal Trackphone.

Worst Movie Ever

If you are a fan of horrible movies you may be interested in this one, but it is pretty offensive. A few years back a guy at work was telling me about it so I decided to borrow it from him because I don't get offended by anything really.

The movie is called Pink Flamingos by a weirdo named John Waters, and starring a transvestite named Divine. It is considered a cult classic and is really just a really weird movie.

Take a look on IMDb:

Cardinals Win the 2006 World Series

I didn't watch Game 5. I couldn't let myself do it. For Game 4 I DVR'd it and watched it the next morning. Right when I awoke and it ruined my day. The whole game they had control and blew it with defense. I hear Game 5 was similar. I haven't seen any highlights. I haven't looked at box scores. I can't bear it. I do it with all my teams. If they get this far and lose I just stop following the media until the next season starts. I've been that way with the Pistons the last couple of years. Every time I think about it I start to feel sick.

The Tigers were supposed to be different. Just like that surprise Pistons team a few years ago that went out and got RaSheed Wallace before the deadline. I kind of knew that team was going to win it all the second that trade went through. The Tigers were a bit more of a wait and see, but they pitched their asses off until the very end. In the end it appears youthful inexperience cost us plenty. I heard there was another pitcher error in Game 5. Lead to a run. I'm not checking this mind you. Only reason I even hear these things is because I wear a Detroit Tigers hat everywhere and have been for the last 6 years. Everyone feels it is necessary to bring it up.

Let me tell you this. If you see a guy that has a Tigers hat on at this point in time leave them alone. They love the team and are sick right now. Joking with them is not funny. They may actually resort to violence. I only tell you this for your own safety. You may think it is ha-ha real funny mother $#!@er, but not in the least to me. Shut your mouth and back away once you see my face. Don't say a thing to me until spring training. Even then don't talk about last season unless it involves statistics. REGULAR SEASON statistics.

OK...When it is due it is due. I like the Cardinals. I am not upset they won. I am upset that we lost. They fought hard and came up with a title. I respect that. They were touted as the worst World Series team ever. Now they must be the worst World Series Champs. That is awesome. The Pistons were the worst NBA Champs a few years back. I sure as hell didn't care about the lack of respect and Cards fans probably won't either. YOU ARE WORLD CHAMPS. Congrats Cards fans. You are TRUE baseball fans. You deserve it.

The Green Skeleton

I once had a friend that was so sick he turned green. He was a skinny sort that looked like a skeleton. Now he is called the Green Skeleton and fights for justice. What kind fo justice? No idea. I never talk to him anymore. I suppose he fights for great justice by playing the drinking hero at bars. Maybe he even outsmokes the group with some Mary Jane. Wherever he may be he is definitely fighting for great justice.

Resident Evil 4 for PS2

I've had this game now for over a year, but lent it out and just got it back a few days ago. Started playing again and remember how great a game it really was. I guess I'll do a little review on it just for the heck of it.

This is for the Playstation 2 version. The original version was released on the Nintendo Gamecube, but the PS2 version has a few added bonuses. There is the Separate Ways alternate mission after the original story. This is much like Resident Evil 2 in that it shows a different perspective of the story by using another of the characters. The mission is shorter than the main mission, but does add a few hours of gameplay. Also, the PS2 version adds a few new weapons. Everything from the Gamecube version is there. Story is the same.

The game itself blows me away. I love it. It was definitely my favorite game released last year and my favorite since Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

The atmosphere is much like past installments with the very eerie feel. Creepy describes this game more than anything. It really doesn’t have many jump out at you scare effects and isn't really a scary game, but it is definitely very dark and creepy. Playing in the dark would make you feel a bit on edge I would think, but everyone is different. The music sets the mood and the sounds are very disturbing. You know something is after you when the music comes up, but it really doesn't take away from the experience at all. It actually builds anticipation.

Weapons galore. There are a full assortment of hand guns, rifles, shotguns, explosives, Magnums, a Rocket Launcher, a mine thrower, and semi-automatics. The game has a really neat way about finding and building up weapons. There is a wandering merchant that you will run a crossed that buys treasure from you as well as sells weapons to you and does upgrades for them. For example, if you have the basic handgun and talk to the merchant you will see available upgrades for that gun because you own it. Each gun upgrades power, reload speed, fire rate, and capacity (amount of ammos it holds). You pay for these upgrades by finding pesetas (gold like money) from enemies, crates, and treasures. You also will find various treasures around the game that you can sell, but some will have more items you can combine with them to increase their value significantly and fetch you much more money. After getting all available upgrades on a weapon, each weapon has an "Exclusive" that you can purchase for a significant price. Each exclusive is unique to each weapon. The handgun you start with has an exclusive of increasing critical headshots by five times. A very nice little bonus.

The typical herbs are still in this game like the others. You have the Green herb which helps restore a bit of health. There is a red herb that must be combined with a green herb to do anything for you. The combination results in fully restoring your health. There is also a Yellow herb that must also be combined with the green herb. This herb when combined will increase your overall health bar for the rest of the game slightly. These are pretty rare and you will want to find all of them.

The attaché case is where you hold your inventory. There are a few that you can purchase in the game to increase carry space. This case needs to be managed a bit in the game. You store everything you have in it other than treasures. Ammo, weapons, healing items, etc. There is limited space so there may be times where you just can't fit everything you want into it. IT never becomes a serious issue, but there are a few times in the game where you have to make some decisions. You just can't own every weapon there is out there. They won't fit in the case. You need to make a choice as to what you carry. You don't really want to have 4 different handguns in the case because you really only need one.

The story is set in a remote village where some evil whack job has started mining the Las Plagas. This is some sort of spore that drives those who get it into their bodies insane and makes them violent. Guess what? There are no zombies in this game. Can you believe that? Well the enemies are pretty zombie-like, but technically they are not zombies. They are more of a cultish group of villagers who are under a mind control. It won't bother you at all. Trust me. You play as Leon, who was the guy from Resident Evil 2 back in Raccoon City. His mission here is to rescue the President of the United States' daughter from these freak shows.

The game map is pretty big. The village has many areas that also include forests, caves, and a big lake. After leaving the village there is another area that is called the castle area. This area is just as vast. You shouldn't be disappointed with the variety in settings.

This is one of those games that you will play through more than once and possibly several times. After the first completion you can start over, but you still have your weapons from the previous game at their upgrades as well as all the health you had from it too. There are also some special weapons that can be unlocked for the main game. One from just completing the story and a couple of others you can only get if you take on the other extra missions outside the story mode. These weapons are VERY expensive and it may take a bit to be able to afford them in your second play through and even beyond, but they are definitely worth it. Things like an Unlimited Rocket Launcher, a Chicago Typewriter (Tommy Gun) with unlimited ammo, and a Handcannon.

This is easily one of my favorite games of all-time and I would recommend it to anyone. At this point the game should be getting close to the $19.99 price so there is no reason not to buy it. The game is well worth it even at the original price.

Youtube is the greatest thing since Google. Hey, didn't Google buy Youtube? I'm int he wrong business. I need to learn some more code.

Jerky Boys

Anyone remember those stupid tapes back in the day? LOL...I used to have them all. It was a couple of guys that made prank phone calls to people and then they made tapes out of the calls. It was pretty funny when I was a kid, but now I look back and realize how great it is to be able to make millions from such a simple idea. I know that there are many that do these pranks and have since, but those guys took it to another level.

These guys actually sold over 8 million CDs. Can you believe that> I wonder what stupid gimmick I could come up with to make my millions...hmmmm

I like to post a lot

So this blog is going to have a lot of posts on it about anything and everything. I can't ever tell what direction I will go in, but it is likely going to be random. So get ready for a ride of spontaneous posting.
